HISTORY OF LITTLE DRAGON PRIMARY SCHOOL

The Little Dragon Primary School was the first Montessori day care started in early 1990s by a group of foreigners (Dutch-SNV), whose spouses were working in various international agencies in Bhutan. The pre-school was then managed by various proprietors.

In October 2000, it was formally bought and managed by Madam Tshering Yeden, with three decades of rich teaching experiences. She was the first Bhutanese educationist to be trained as a Montessori Teacher in 1980s. The school continued with the Montessori approach of learning until 2003 and then it was upgraded to a primary school with a handful of 20 children and eventually grown to upbringing 300 children. Her main objective for up gradation was to nurture life-long learning among the children and foster a love for collaborative work under her guidance.

Today, the school has the history of being the first private school to be established in the country. The diverse curriculum was developed and reviewed over the years to empower students in connecting with environment, appreciate their heritage and transform themselves to become a successful citizen of the country.

In 2011, the school was added with another important figure with an appointment of Tashi Chhoezom Namgyel as the Principal of the school. Apart from holding a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from National Institute of Education, Samtse, she also served as a teacher in various government schools for nearly a decade and bought along rich experience and techniques of modern teaching and learning skills.

Under her leadership, the school has a team of hard working and passionate educators progressing towards making a difference in the life of every child, thereby contributing towards nation building in its own small way.
